Kingston Lighthouse We had a chance to take a ride out to the Kingston Lighthouse. The trip starts along the old Delaware and Hudson Canal in the Rondout section of Kingston (Rondout Creek and the old canal both enter the Hudson River at the same spot along the Kingston shoreline and Rondout is the old 'port' area of Kingston). After launching you make your way along Rondout Creek and just about out to the open Hudson River where the lighthouse is located along a jetty sticking out into the Hudson. The lighthouse itself is still an active lighthouse (though the coast guard has an automated, solar-powered light in place of the original light), but the rest of the lighthouse is a museum to the history of the lighthouse and the surrounding Hudson River. It was a fun trip (minus the showers) and even though Jeff had been there when he was younger (he paddled out with his father), neither of us had been inside the lighthouse before.
