Red Rock Country (Red Rock Canyon and Spring Mountains)
These mountains are located just outside of Las Vegas. On our last day there we went and visited Red Rock Canyon, which is managed by the US Bureau of Land Management ($5 gate fee). It's well worth the trip if you are in Vegas and have a way to get out of the city. Expect to spend at least a few hours out there, but be aware that it gets really hot in the summer (100+).
