Douglas State Forest

There are plenty of trails in Douglas State Forest that make quick (and even sometimes longer) ski trips possible.  The main trail through the park is a snowmobile trail, but all the other trails are only open to skiers and snowshoers - so don't expect to be run off the trail skiing if you're not on that main trail.

The last trip I took was after about a 2 1/2 foot snowfall (the 2005 blizzard I believe their calling it).  This was a week later, but the snow hadn't settled at all (and we got another 5 inches during the week).  The snow itself was still powder - the temperature had never gotten above about 15 for the week.  When I started skiing it was -10, when I left it was up to 20 - so you can imagine the snow started to settle that day.  It also made it a bit difficult to wax for as the day went on.

More snowbanks!

Getting ready

Luckily someone had skied before the 2nd snowfall so I didn't quite have to break a brand new track the entire time

Look at that powder snow - and that's a week after the storm!

Taking a break!

You think the car is dirty?
