The Jeff and Moe FAQ

Who are Jeff and Moe?
Simple one!  We are two gay guys (100% - sorry girls) who first met in the Fall of 1996 at Lyndon State College.  Jeff graduated in 1999 with a degree in Environmental Science, with minors in Geology and Biology and Moe graduated in the Spring of 2002 with a degree in Environmental Science with minors in Meteorology and Geology.

The gay thing?
Yup, we are both gay and happy that way.  Both of us were the President of the Gay-Straight Alliance at Lyndon (different times of course) and we are both out to friends and most family.  Jeff came out when he was 18 and Moe came out around 20, after they had been together for a while.

Are Jeff and Moe a couple?
Yes - They have been together "officially" since March 15, 1997 (greetings welcomed on Anniversary date).  Their unofficial date (you can guess what that means...) is in October of 1997 and they first met in September of 1997 when Moe was part of Jeff's friend's orientation group (Jeff was a Resident Assistant in the dorms at the time and Jen was an orientation leader - one of those folks who welcomes new students).

Do we love each other?
Utterly and completely.

Do Jeff and Moe live together?
The answer is finally yes.  Right now they are both living together in an apartment outside of Boston in the Metrowest area (see older entries in The Journal for more info on that living situation!).  Earlier we were living with a roommate and there were some tensions with that third roommate (she and Jeff just did not get along). 

In the past, the simple answer was no.  During the 97-98 and 98-99 school years, they lived together at Lyndon State College, but after that they were separated by at least 200 miles.  Jeff then lived in Maine, near the state capital, Augusta and Moe lived in the suburbs west of Boston in a town out by I495.

How often do Jeff and Moe see each other?
Now that we are living together, it's pretty much everyday, even when we don't want to see one another.  However, their schedules can be kind of funky, especially Moe's since he works at all hours of the day at McDonalds.  But if that happens, Jeff makes a trip for some fries and visits Moe at work.

Before we were living together - it was sometimes every weekend, sometimes every other weekend and sometimes, at the worst was maybe once a month or so - it all depended on our schedules, the weather and our cars.  Basically, it sucked big time.

What does Jeff do in Massachusetts?
In order not to incriminate him completely (hey, you never know who is going to want a permit), Jeff works for the State of Massachusetts in a environmental permitting management/supervisory type role.  He works in Boston and has the normal work schedule of a 9 to 5 job.

What does Moe do in Massachusetts?
Moe's an Assistant Manager in food service and is getting ready to be a Store Manager with his own new store.  His schedule is all over the place.

Where's Jeff from?
Jeff is originally from the Hudson Valley area of New York, which is about 90 miles north of NYC and 90 miles south of Albany.  He grew up in Ludingtonville and then in Stormville, both of which are near Poughkeepsie.  He also spent a lot of time in the Catskill Mountains, where his parents still have a weekend home.

Where is Moe from?
Moe is originally from the Medway/Franklin area of Massachusetts which is about 30 miles west of Boston and 30 miles north of Providence, RI.  He grew up there and left when he went to college in Lyndonville, VT.

Who does all the web page stuff?
Jeff is the computer literate one in the couple and does most of the web page stuff.

What kind of cars do Jeff and Moe drive?
Jeff drives a 2002 Toyota Rav4 and Moe drives a 2000 Subaru Forester.

What are Jeff and Moe's favorite ice cream flavors?
Moe likes chocolate and Jeff is a vanilla kind of guy.

Have there been rocky times in the relationship?
Saying no would be a lie, but we have made it through all of them and come out the other end better.  We'll just say that things have flown across rooms into walls before.

What's the worst thing that has happened to the two of us?
In the winter of 1996 we were coming back from Lake Placid in New York and got into a car accident on I89 just east of Burlington.  Moe was very badly hurt, almost died and Jeff had to deal with the fact that he was driving when it all happened.  In the end it made them both realize how strong their love for one another was and brought them closer together.  "A commitment forged in fire" they like to say and have been stronger ever since.

Who are our best friends?
Moe has so many it would be hard to list, Brendan, Alicia, Jessica and Sharon come to mind first.  Jeff's best friend is John who he first met when he was 3 years old back even before preschool.

Favorite music groups?
Jeff's is R.E.M. and Moe's is the B-52s.  But you know we're getting older, so that could change.

Favorite music genre?
Dance, techno/house and pop for Moe, Jeff leans more towards alternative rock and house.

If we compared ourselves to characters in Will and Grace who would be who?
Moe would probably be Jack, Jeff would be Will.  We won't say who Karen and Grace are, in fear of getting a beating from our female friends.  We just know too many women to categorize them like that.

Do Jeff and Moe gamble?
Do monthly visits to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut say we do?  We both gamble occasionally and within our means.  We have been to Las Vegas once and plan on going back in the near future.  Lately though they have both sworn off gambling in order to save some money.

Marriage in the future?
If it gets legalized anywhere anytime soon, otherwise it might be a trip back to Vermont to get Civil Unionized.

What did Jeff and Moe do before meeting one another?
This was Jeff's first serious relationship with someone and Moe had several relationships with girls (gasp) while he was in High School.  This was his first relationship with another guy.

Ever do a 3-way?
We're pleading the fifth on this one.

Who's the clean freak?
Moe is always cleaning, though Jeff isn't too far behind.

Who's lazier?
Jeff takes the crown for that one.

Have we been out of the country?
We have both been to Canadian Province of Quebec.  Jeff's also been to Ontario in addition to Italy.

What States have we been to together?
Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Arizona, Nevada and California

Are we going to have kids?
We'd like to sometime in the future.

What TV show do we both love?
Absolutely Fabulous, Queer as Folk, Sex in the City ("I don't want to be known as Mrs. Backdoor Girl!")

Boxers or Briefs
We both do Boxers or Boxer Briefs

Fraiser or Seinfeld?
Seinfeld all the way but only a true New Yorker like Jeff gets all the humor in the show.  Who else would know about the Taconic...or Westchester?

Favorite study area?
Moe loves the weather (meteorology) and Jeff is a geologist at heart.

Milk or OJ?
Orange Juice for both of us.  Jeff's lactose intolerant so if he even looks at milk, he's going to get a stomach ache and we don't want that, do we?

Christmas and greeting card situation?
Actually we both send out Christmas Cards, so some of our mutual friends end up getting cards from both of us.  For birthdays and other occasions where we both know the person, we usually only get one card from both of us.

Chocolate or Yellow Cake?
We like them both, but when you make either, they have to have the opposite icing on to make them perfect.

Who is more fashion conscious?
Moe definitely has the large collection of clothes and tends to dress a bit trendier than Jeff.  Since Jeff has been stuck in New England for so long, he goes for comfort and not necessarily style all of the time.  Hey, that's what happens when there is no dress code at work for two years before coming to Boston.

What's with all the gambling in the journal?
Jeff has a certain weakness that he is learning to control when it comes to casino gambling.  It doesn't help that his good friend Sharon shares that weakness and when they are together, it's almost like there will powers, which are pretty good when they are apart, just melt away. 

Now that he's made this into a New Years Resolution for 2004 - the gambling is coming to end though.  It's better to have money in your pocket than to piss it away in a casino.  He hasn't been gambling since December 26th 2003.

You two living with a girl?
It was a situation we were stuck with due to circumstances beyond our control.  Moe had moved in with Alicia and then Jeff found out he got a job in Massachusetts - so in order not to leave Alicia out in the cold after they had just moved in together - we all decided that we would stay in the same apartment - and that last almost 2 years until Alicia moved out.  Now we've moved out of that old place and we've got our own place where we are starting out living together - no girls involved.
