03/14/2005: "will i dream?"
What is it about Monday mornings?
All day Sunday I know I should go to bed at least semi-early so I’m not exhausted on Monday – I usually even get up early on Sunday morning so I know by the time 10 or so rolls around at night, I’m ready to sleep.
I did that yesterday – I even made breakfast for Moe and I and we did accomplish quite a bit throughout the day (after we watched cartoons and then 2010 on the SciFi channel).
I have to admit I was the one who started watching 2010, but then Moe got involved in it too. He asked me a 101 questions though and I was like “you have to watch or read 2001 to really understand it, I can’t explain it…” The questions ranged from “what’s the monolith” to “who’s that guy and why’s he old and then a fetus?” While the movie doesn’t in my opinion, hold much of a candle to the original 2001 movie – it’s still one that grabs my attention and isn't half bad.
It was good to see it after I just finished listening to 2001 on CD – the book (except for the glaring fact that the monolith is in the Saturnian system in the book and it’s in the Jupiter system in the movie) gives you a lot more answers and fills in details around the edges that you don’t get with watching 2001 and sets you up much better for the sequal. When I read the book I was like "oh, that's why that was that way in the movie."
So after getting up early and staying busy all day on Sunday, why at 11 last night was I cleaning the coffee maker and still doing things around the house? I didn’t get into bed until 11:30 and I slept on and off throughout the night so by the time my alarm went off this morning (after being woken up earlier by Moe’s cell phone ringing because there was a problem at the store), I just wanted to roll back over but I didn’t.
So I drove to the train station where I almost slipped and broke my neck when I got out of my car (the lot was literally a sheet of glass from all the snow that had melted yesterday). Then the train was 110 degrees – okay, okay, its winter and you need the heat on, but does it need to be hot enough to melt the sides of the train? I unzipped my coat, had no gloves or hat on, and still I was sweating sitting there it was so hot. Feeling all sweaty I wandered down the streets to my building after I got off the train – cooling off enough while walking that I was actually comfortable again once I got inside.
The plus to all this? This afternoon I’m going with Moe and a bunch of other people to Foxwoods and Mohegan for dinner and stuff so I get to skip out early. His company his taking him and I’ve been drafted to go along. It should be fun – I haven’t been to either in ages and I know I can just watch Sharon spend money so I won’t have to gamble that much.
Tomorrow I get to get out of work early too – just a little though – so that Moe and I can get out relatively early for our anniversary dinner (woo hoo to 8 years).

I love those Arthur C. Clarke books - 2001, 2010, 2061, 3001. They're all great.
