02/17/2005: "see you in santa fe (maybe)"
I’m fairly sure that at least two thoughts ran through the travel agent’s head last night as Moe and I sat down and I started explaining that we were looking for quotes for a trip to Disneyworld. The first was probably “wow, I never seen real live homosexuals in my office before,” and the second was “wow, these guys are loaded, let me find an expensive trip.”
Hi second idea was somewhat deflated when I started listing price quotes I had gotten while searching online. His price quotes almost magically started to come down as he “searched a little harder.”
Of course, this was all really for naught – since I didn’t expect to get any amazing deals at the travel agent. I think that at most – the only time they are really useful is if you’re planning a trip to somewhere you’ve never been to before and you need to get some ideas of where to stay and what to do. Even then, the internet is probably better.
So I think we’ve passed on the idea of Disney – instead we’re looking at a hiking/camping/exploring kind of vacation. So that leaves us to consider the coastal pacific northwest or the southwest – pretty much the rest of the west still has too much snow in April to go hiking very far.
I suggested New Mexico – as we’ve both been to Arizona and Nevada quite a bit – and I’ve been in Utah several times, but neither of us have been to New Mexico. I’m not familiar with what’s there, but it’s got to be interesting at the very least.

I took my daughters to teh southwest when they were teenagers and we had a really great trip. We took a hot air balloon ride in Albuquerque that was exciting and incredibly beautiful. More recently, Fritz and I white water rafted down the Rio Grande for two days out of Taos and loved it. The landscape is superb, the food is excellent and the people very friendly. Enjoy!

New Mexico would be my choice..The colors of the rocks and the scenic beauty is worth the trip. Look at Red Rock..Phill

New Mexico is amazing! It was the best vacation I ever took. Bypass Albuquerque completely (except to fly into) and spend your time in Santa Fe and, better yet, Taos.
That whole area is gorgeous.
And, I have to admit, Carlsbad Caverns was fascinating, too....but it's unfortunately in the complete opposite end of the state in the middle of the desert. But climbing into an underground cave that's over a 1/4 mile below the earth's surface was unforgettable.
