01/24/2005: "digging out"
Well, it wasn't like we were completley snowed in, but Sunday morning I wouldn't have wanted to drive anywhere. It came down awfully hard and really got nasty late Saturday night and throughout most of the day on Sunday with heavy snow and really strong winds. We're well inland, but I would guess we had guests well over 50mph at times. The snow drifts are amazing, and that's coming from a boy who lived in northern New England for 6 years.

When all was said and done, I would guess we had about 2 1/2 feet of snow. It is hard to tell because it drifted so much and so you couldn't get an accurate reading. We do have drifts up to about 6 feet in the yard.
I spent the better part of Sunday afternoon plowing with the tractor, trying to open the driveway up as much as possible.

I didn't do a half-bad job either. The saving grace was the snow was light and fluffy - almost like powdered sugar. If it had been heavier, I would have had to go out and plow after every 8 inches or so to have kept up with it. As it was, it was a challenge to get through the 4 1/2 foot drift in front of the garage when I first got the tractor up.
And as if God listened to my request for another 3-day weekend and another 4-day workweek - state workers in eastern Massachusetts didn't have to go into work today - so I got to enjoy another day off. I did do one final plowing of the driveway to clean up anything I missed yesterday and to clean up the end of the driveway where the town's been plowing. Other than that, it was some grocery shopping (more so to just see what it's like around town) and I'll get a few other things done.
