01/18/2005: "frozen green line"
I got a gmail invite – so I’m officially a card-carrying member of gmail now. Though I just signed up this morning, so I’ve basically opened it and that’s about it. Overall it doesn’t seem that much different from anything else I’ve seen.
This morning reminded me of the joys of being on the T’s Green Line in the frigid cold. Consider first that most of the stops are above ground – so you stand outside in the cold (it was -2 when I left the house, I’d guess around 0 or so when I got to the station) and then you get on the train. For some of the stops they only open the front door, but for many of them, they open all the doors. So at each stop this whoosh of cold air comes bursting through the train. In the meantime between stops, the heat is on so strongly that if you have a seat against the heaters, you literally will fry. At one point on the ride in the morning I thought I was going to pass out I got so hot. At least the train didn't break down like it normally does in cold weather - the most likely problem - the doors actually freeze and won't shut while they are open.
I also enjoy watching people try to remain stylish while dressing for sub-zero weather. There’s something about the clothes that you need for this kind of weather than don’t lend themselves too well to being stylish.
I was checking the site stats and I have to wonder, why is “speedos and star trek” still one of the most popular search terms. I understand now that I’ve constantly wondered about this so that phrase is scattered throughout the blog, but before I ever said it or wrote it, it was a popular search term that hit the entire jeffandmoe.net site. I still can’t figure it out – mainly because I can’t understand why anyone would want to search for that…that’s just damn scary if you think about it.
I am going to be the best man for my best friend…I’m pretty psyched up about that one. He’s getting married and while it won’t be until 2006 – the wedding is going to be in Vegas and I can already tell it’s going to be one hell of a time.
I’m feeling more upbeat with the new week – it helps that it’s a 4-day workweek for me.
This confirmation hearing transcript from Ryan is priceless.
