01/11/2005: "keep it or shave it?"
You have to enjoy an evening when you come home, change into sweatpants and a t-shirt and proceed to spend the rest of the evening just lounging around – not needing to accomplish anything. Yeah, I could have done something, but it was nice to just take it easy for a change.
Moe was off with Sharon down in Connecticut and I had thought he might be home somewhat early – but it turns out that he didn’t get home until 2 this morning and he had to be in work at 5 this morning – so I can only guess how tired he is.
I even remembered to set up the coffee pot last night so I’d have a cup of coffee ready for me when I got up this morning. It was great – I drove in to the station this morning with my cup of coffee. Though I forgot to stop at the gas station, so that’s the first thing I’ve got to do on the way home tonight.
A side effect of all that coffee was that I was actually able to stay awake, read a magazine on the train, and enjoy some of the eye candy. I have to wonder though, didn’t the word go out that pleated khakis were out? I mean, this poor guy had a real nice body yet the pleats still made him look like he was semi-fat around the waist.
I personally threw out any pleats (beyond my suit pants) that I had. It’s flat front all the way for me.
Considering I blew off my car dealer last time I made an appointment for my car, I was almost afraid when I called this morning to set up another one. The whole reason I made one last time was because the check engine light came on – well it went off – and I decided to go to NY and just didn’t have a chance to call them – so I never showed up. They didn’t even say a word about it to me this morning.
I weighed myself last night and lost 5 pounds since I last did it (which, I can’t really remember when it was beyond it being before Christmas). That makes me feel good – I got through the holidays actually losing something. Now I’ve just got to lose a few more before my next doctor’s appointment at the end of the month so I don’t have to listen to them bitch and moan about how I need to lose weight. Hell I know that – but after I quit smoking it was like someone was coming and sticking fat on my while I was sleeping – no matter what I did – even if I didn’t eat – I was gaining weight. That finally stopped after about 2 ½ or 3 months and for the last month and a half or so I’ve stopped gaining weight and finally started going back down. I guess my metabolism finally stabilized after quitting smoking.
I’ve been growing a beard for almost the last 3 weeks (since Christmas) and I’ve yet to decide whether I like it or not. I had one on and off through college and when I’ve been skinny I like it – but at my somewhat less than skinny stage, I’m not sure if: a) it makes me look fatter; b) makes me look better; c) makes me scraggly; or d) does nothing at all beyond make my face itch. Reactions have been mixed – Moe seems to like it as do some friends, while others are like “shave it off.” I guess I’ll just keep going and see how it goes.
It’s going to go if the gray hairs show up in the beard and not just on my head – plus I could never have a beard for more than a few months at a time, even when I used to have it regularly.

Yeah - I second the motion to provide pictures. I started a beard last summer...and most people seem to like it. I trim it once per week - much easier than shaving daily (ok, for me it was every other day cuz I'm lazy).

I'm pretty partial to facial hair; I love the 'scraggly' look. And don't even worry about a few grey hairs--I've been dealing with that since my early 30's! But I'm with Will--let's get that photo up!

I propose you put a picture of you in he new beard onto the blog and let us all vote. That's always fun and gets the readers interested. You looked pretty good in the old one that was pictured on the masthead of the blog.

You just described every weeknight of my sad life.
