01/05/2005: "snow for now"

Another half-assed snowstorm today. I don’t get this weather – it’s January and it’s been downright balmy. We get snow, it rains the next day and it’s suddenly 50 degrees? Winter just doesn’t seem to be able to get started.

Like today – it’s snowing – but it’s going to change to rain, then back to snow and then into rain again tomorrow and then on Friday it’s going to be 45 and sunny...

At this rate, I’m going to have to go to California to go skiing. It figures, the year I buy new telemark boots – there’s no snow for backcountry skiing.

It does look pretty at the moment – snow in Boston for some reason always mesmerizes me. I’ve been sitting at my desk staring out the window for most of the morning, or at least glancing over and watching.

Yeah, they just don't make winters like they used to any more. The weather for the next several days is supposed to be like like a yo-yo. But it's New England, after all, and our weather's always "interesting" as in the old Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times."
