12/27/2004: "holiday hangover"
The christmas season cold I had so thought that I wouldn't have, I managed to catch. It started last Wendesday, then was bad on Thursday - wasn't so bad Friday and then on Christmas - I sat in a chair and napped most of the day while everything went on around me. It didn't help that my entire family was sick, including Moe - so we all kind of sat there in this haze trying our best to enjoy Christmas.
Thank god my Mom went out and catered the meal - I don't know how any of us would have been actually able to cook anything of consequence that day.
Even though I was sick, I think it's official - I'm a spoiled brat. My Mom wasn't kidding when she said to come down with an empty car and to take out the back seats so I'd have more room. Some notables include a chainsaw, a kitchenaid mixer (OMG - I almost screamed when I opened that one) and tons of other great things.
Sunday we tried to hit the malls in NY and beyond getting into a fight with this stupid twat of a woman at Filene's (she tried to return all this stuff she bought on her Filene's card without bringing her Filene's card) and my Mom getting flustered when I did start yelling at the lady - we didn't do all that much. The malls were just too crowded and if you went to go buy something - you'd be on line for hours.
Moe and I left NY around 6 - just as it had started to snow - since this surprise snowstorm seemed to materialize while we were in NY. By the time we got to Waterbury on 84 - cars were everywhere but on the road - probably somewhere around 20 to 30 were off the road and smashed into the barriers or each other. It didn't get better through Hartford and after Hartford - it was a test of patience making it to the Mass Pike - which was in great shape (it was wet even in heavy snow when I got on at Charlton). The rest of the way home once we got off the Pike was a bit more challenging. We didn't get home until 11:30 - a 2 1/2 hour trip took a good 5 hours.
I've got the week off - thank god - if not just because I still feel like crap (sinus cold now) and I've got so much stuff I need to catch up on around home that I've been putting off while I've been working and getting ready for Christmas.
Got up and plowed with the tractor this morning (I know, redneck all the way) - about 7 inches of snow and then shoveled the stairs, porch and the like. Then it was off to several banks (why do I have multiple accounts at different banks? to travel more?) and now I'm just getting the house ready for Moe to come home so we can finally have "our" christmas, since we haven't yet exchanged gifts.
