12/22/2004: "shopping...finished...and hello speedo santa..."

I think I can claim almost complete finality to the Christmas shopping. Except for Moe’s Mom, I am done – people are getting what they are getting and somehow, I managed to not exceed the cash amount I set out to use for Christmas. Now I just need to figure out what I can get for his Mom with only 2 days left before we exchange gifts (we’re having his family over for Christmas Eve before we leave for NY).

My final shopping destinations included Linen’s and Things and REI. Linen’s and Things was fine – we wandered through and I got quite a few things and then when we went to REI it was like a zoo. I must have waited in line for a good 20 minutes to check out, but I did manage to get quite a few ‘well thought out’ gifts for Moe. One of those deals where you stand and consider and consider and then come up with a cute idea for a gift or a series of gifts.

I’ve always been one to follow themes with presents – some overriding thought runs through the majority of any group of gifts I give someone. It could be hinting towards an activity or a vacation, or whatever – but the gifts all back up the theme. That’s why it took me so long to finish in REI. This idea popped into my head and I was off to fulfill it.

It did make me feel better – I felt like I finally accomplished something with Christmas.

I was talking with Sharon with about it last night – it’s not so much the presents and stuff, but it’s the feeling that Christmas sort of snuck up on me this year and I feel so unprepared. I don’t know if it’s because I’m working all week with no break before Christmas (I almost always take Christmas Eve off), or what – but it feels like I am completely unprepared for the Holidays and it’s got me completely off balance.

I’ve spent all this time shopping when I’m usually already done by now, plus because we’ve spent so much time shopping – everything around the house has suffered. I can’t remember the last time I cooked at home, the laundry needs to be done, and we still have to clean before Moe’s family comes over on Friday evening. I feel so rushed I can’t seem to enjoy the Holiday season.

I’m hoping tonight will help – Moe’s going to be out with some friends and I’ll be able to have a quiet evening to wrap everything and probably get a good amount of laundry done. I might even get some packing for the trip to NY done. Then tomorrow Moe is off and he said he’ll clean the house and make his cheesecake for the weekend. I might take off early – just so I can get more done before Friday - I had wanted to make cookies for Friday night.

Now why didn't anyone tell me ahead of time this was happening in Boston? I sure would have enjoyed standing on the street watching those guys in speedos run by (and believe me, from the shots, some of them look like they were worth standing out in the cold to see in a speedo).

Things like this make me enjoy Boston a bit more...when does the speedo santa visit on Christmas Eve?

Is it just me? Or does the guy in the middle with Santa's white beard appear to have stuffed his speedo with something white?
