12/06/2004: "deep down redneck"

I managed to make a significant dent in my Christmas shopping while my Mom was up visiting this weekend. Thank God.

However, with purchase of my new glasses and contacts I probably won’t be shopping until I get my next paycheck – so I can stay away from the plastic and not fall into the trap of adding on more to my cards that will take me forever to pay off. I’m trying to complete a credit card free Christmas.

So far, it’s not so bad – I just won’t be going as crazy as I normally do with gifts.

I’d rather pay off the credit cards and get rid of them then spend like a madman on Christmas.

Well, I knew that redneck streak wasn’t too deep under my skin – but I sure was excited when my Mom and Brother brought up the tractor this weekend (before you think giant farm tractor, it’s just a large garden tractor). I got the plow on it and now I’m all set to keep the driveway clear in a snowstorm. Come on, I grew up spending half my life in the Catskill Mountains and before I came to Boston, it was all northern New England for me – I’m allowed to be a redneck once an a while.

I even had a flannel shirt on while my Brother and I were putting up the new storm door. I think Moe rolled his eyes when he saw it – he hates flannel.

The snow on Friday never materialized – though now they are saying it’s going to snow tonight – but turn into an icy mix tomorrow morning and end with heavy rain tomorrow afternoon – sounds like a recipe for a great commute tomorrow.

Want to get Moe to love flannel? Find some (soft) flannel sheets! :)
