Hi Jeff, Europeans "get it" because it's drummed in to their heads with strict driver's education and strict enforcement on the roads. It's not so easy to get a driver's licens in the UK or Germany as here. Our driver's ed programs here are so sloppy and poorly done and it is so easy to get a driver's license that we get what we deserve, incompetence behind the wheel and drivers oblivious to the flow around them. Now how do we reverse this mass incompetence and enter the world of considerate and safe drivers? Some fools think lowering the speed limits and reporting agressive drivers is the answer. Arghhh!!!! Not! Driving fast is not the problem, as anyone who has driven in Europe can testify. Keeping the passing lane clear, signaling all lane moves, being aware of the vehicles around you, never passing on the right, keeping the cell phone out of the car, maintaining proper spacing, and using headlights intelligently to request lane clearance are all important parts of this puzzle. It's amazing how little of the above is observed on US highways and how little of the above is enforced by most State Troopers. And how many Americans actually think the above are unsafe ideas!!! I'd like to start a write in campaign to all the states to post "Keep Right Except to Pass" signs all over the place and to strictly enforce this rule. This one rule alone will go a long way towards cleaning up the roads and reducing traffic fatalities. Thanks for the dialog. Dave
